This image, and the series that follow, show a number of improvements in the optical setup of the Galileo observatory:

1)A single-shot 6 megapixel camera is attached to the 4 inch refractor for quick, wide-field views of the night sky. This camera has very low noise, mostly as a result of thermolectric cooling which takes the camera to around 35-40 celcius below the ambient temperature.
2)An off-axis guider is attached to the refractor, allowing us to 'syphen' off a small amount of the incoming light to the live sky camera. The off-axis guider means we can simultaneously view the night sky as well as perform colour imaging.
3)Below the colour camera, is another new camera, attached to the main telescope: an Sbig ST8XME with 10-position filterwheel. This is the new Science camera for Project Galileo, and detailed elsewhere is information about what this setup enables us to image.
